Samaya will soon be celebrating its fifth anniversary since the marketing of its very first tent. Until now, Samaya had concentrated on the development of 4 season tents, able to face the most extreme conditions. For the first time since its creation, Samaya is launching into 3 seasons with two unique products: the Samaya INSPIRE2 and the Samaya OPTI1.5. On this occasion, Ghislain Pipers, its co-founder and CEO, answers our questions.

Why offer a 3 season offer?

Ghislain Pipers : Samaya began its career by focusing on the design of excellent mountaineering tents, aiming to establish benchmarks in this field and to encourage the art of bivouac in all conditions and with simplicity. We started by creating 4-season tents respecting very rigorous standards of performance, lightness and comfort. We designed these first products according to our own needs as practitioners, finding that it was difficult to find satisfactory products on the market. However, the practice of winter bivouac (4 seasons) remains marginal on a global scale. Most of the activity is focused on 3 seasons, in milder conditions and with different requirements. We have therefore decided to take up this new challenge by creating the 3-season tent of tomorrow. This environment, less extreme, opens up many possibilities of use and practices, ranging from fastpacking and itinerant trail running to climbing, via trekking and itinerant hiking.

How to capitalize on the know-how acquired over the past 5 years?

GP : Thanks to our in-depth knowledge of materials, we have developed skills, technologies and expertise in creating extremely high performance tents for winter conditions (4 seasons). We have worked from these materials, these assembly techniques, these geometries, relying on our own product development and validation process, to offer an innovative version of technical tents adapted to 3-season practice. . We have exploited our know-how acquired in the design of equipment for winter conditions, using in particular Dyneema® and Nanovent®. For example, our Samaya OPTI1.5 model is a hybrid construction using Dyneema®, a fully waterproof and extremely durable composite for the floor and vestibule. The walls of the tent are made with Nanovent® technology, a three-layer fabric with a waterproof breathable membrane specifically optimized for tents.

Why speak of reinvention on the 3-season market?

GP : The practices linked to the spring, summer and autumn seasons present their own constraints, which means that 3-season tents must be both efficient and reliable in these specific conditions. Our ambition is to support practitioners in their projects to help make them inspiring experiences. This is typically the promise of our Samaya INSPIRE2 tent, which offers an overview with a wide angle effect thanks to its two removable vestibules. At the same time, the crossovers of the arches give it great resistance to the wind. The Samaya INSPIRE2 thus allows us to live an experience where we are both inside and outside, combining the comfort of shelter and total immersion in nature. The Samaya OPTI1.5 is our minimalist approach to the 3-season tent, without compromising on product performance and durability. We push all the limits to design an ultralight, high-performance, durable and comfortable product.
